Quick stix Hockey Success

30th June 2016
It was a scintillatingly hot Tuesday afternoon and Hemingford were looking to defend their title at the annual Quick Sticks regional tournament. Hemingford put forward an A and a B team from a mix of Year 5 and 6s. Both teams demonstrated a wonderful prowess on the hockey pitch and both tasted success throughout the group stages. The B had a date in the final the Bington. Unfortunately, Hemingford fell behind early and despite a valiant effort, we were unable to recover. This meant we finished in 2nd out of 14 teams.
Hemingford A team were ruthless throughout the whole tournament, racking up an impressive 39 goals! A tremendous defensive display from Abbie and Jasmine made sure no team scored against them, keeping a clean sheet for the whole tournament! Meanwhile, goals were scored at a rate of nots, the A team secured victories with, 11-0, 7-0, 6-0, 3-0, 7-0 score-lines on route to the final. The largest hall came were a tenacious Thomas scored all 7 goals in a 7-0 victory. The final didn't lack goals either, as the team came home 5-0 victors against Buckden Primary, rounding off a fantastic day of hockey.
The A team has now qualified for the Schools Games County Finals, were they will be representing the Hunts School Sports Partnership. A tremendous achievement, they will be pitting their hockey skills against the very best schools from across the county.
Both teams showed remarkable support for one another and represented Hemingford Grey Primary School outstandingly.
Well done everyone!
